Go out and skate this weekend!
What a great time of the year to get out your rusty blades. Have them sharpened at your local Canadian Tire or a local sports store. Please remember not to walk on cement once you have them sharpened!!!! If you want to get better at it, you have to make sure your skates fit properly and have a “good edge” .
Chances are if they your skates are rusty, you should take them in for a fresh sharpening. (I have a pet peeve about seeing people walking on cement with their skates on. It is about as annoying to me as hearing someone scratch their nails on a chalkboard.) Please teach this to your children as well. They will find it much easier to skate and will avoid possible injuries.
Please also make sure your child is wearing a helmet. I know you may not have worn one when you were a kid, but a split skull is not worth the risk. Many public arenas will not allow minors to skate without a helmet.
Have fun! This is a great family outing that you can do with your whole family (2 year old included…using bob-skates.)
If the City of Ottawa arenas are not good enough for you, the Corel Center is selling tickets for public skating.
Need help finding an arena: See ArenaMaps.com for maps to Ottawa Area Arenas
Have Fun!
