Car Seat Clinics
Something I have always been very serious about is how well my kids car seat is installed. People look at me funny when they see me applying some of the tricks I learned at the car dealership (Turpin Saturn) on how to install a car seat. This is serious stuff. We all know that we never plan to be in an accident, but isn’t it nice to know that you have done everything in your power to keep your kids safe! Please, if you have never had it done, or if you are expecting a child soon, go to one of the clinics, you will be glad you did.
One article at Ottawa Start referring to the number of properly installed car seats states:
Past clinics have found that 83% of car seats are not properly installed.
This year’s clinic found that all car seats, except for one, had mistakes in
the installation. Providing an opportunity to have these seats inspected
helps save lives. When correctly used and installed, children’s car seats
have been shown to reduce deaths due to collisions by about 90% and injuries
by 70%.
I was glancing through the NewRO’s website and noticed that they are sponsoring car seat clinics all spring and summer. The next one is Saturday May 14th, from 9am -1pm at Kanata Ford (8000 Campeau Drive, Kanata - just down from the Centrum shoping centre).
If you can’t make that clinic, check out the NewRO’s website (http://www.thenewro.com/carseat.html) for future dates.
If you don’t want to go to one of the clinics, call and make an appointment with your local Fire Station. If they dfo not check seats, they will be able to tell you which stations do.
For safety information about Car Seats, ages and weights, check out Transport Canada’s website.
Again, take care and be safe!
