DVD Recorders, PVRs and such
If you are looking for something for your husband (or wife) this Christmas (and have the $$$), go for the DVD recorder (*set top box). If you want to go all out, get the one with the Hard Drive built in. You won’t regret it (as long as you can pay the bill).
I have a PVR I rent from Rogers cable and I love it! There is something it was lacking though, and that was the ability to keep some of the shows indefinitely. The DVD recorder without the built in Hard Drive may not have the same amount of time available, but they will allow you to keep 4-6 hours of shows for about $1.00. For the DVD burners with a hard drive the MSRP can be $600 and up. The DVD burners with no Hard Drive, can be had for $300 and up.
If you have a camcorder, make sure it also has the iLink (firewire) connection as well. This will allow you to transfer your tapes directly to DVD for future enjoyment and safe keeping. This is (as Donald Trump would say) huge!
It is kind of late, so I will probably have to come back and edit my spelling and grammar, but I just had to throw this out as one of the best Christmas gift ideas ever! The whole family will love it. Teenage kids can record the MTV awards and keep it for years to come. You can hook up the VCR and record your old movies that are degrading in quality as I type.
There is no question that the DVD recorder will be one of the hottest items next Christmas (*the price point over the next year will put the ones with the built in Hard Drive into the $300 range). But if you want to be the 1st one on the block with the best thing to happen to home entertainment since Beta….I mean VHS and the VCR, then this is your chance!
Future Shop, Best Buy and AVDeals.ca have some good prices on several of the models. And if you are looking for cheap media to put in them, check out www.oemexpress.com You cannot beat their prices for DVD media!
Have fun shopping!
